In short

• Your recitations, videos and projects stay on your phone. Ayahs are recognised on the phone, and your audio is never uploaded for it.
• No ads, no advertising ID, and no tracking or advertising companies.
• Anonymous usage statistics are on by default, and you can turn them off at any time.
• We only receive something personal when you choose to send it: a report, a Botsaz sign-in, or a video you publish.
• Children use the app too: see the section for parents below.

What stays on your phone

The recitations you add (from a file, from a link, or shared into the app), your projects, your videos and their captions stay on your phone. Ayah recognition runs on the phone with a model that comes with the app, so your audio is never uploaded to recognise it. A link you add is downloaded by your phone straight from its own site, not through our servers.

The app doesn’t use the microphone or the camera: it only opens the videos, audio and photos you pick, and saves a finished video to your gallery when you ask. To keep the watermark clear of faces, its placement looks at the colours of each frame on the phone; it doesn’t recognise or identify anyone. On Android, the app’s data is left out of phone backups.

Anonymous usage statistics

To see whether the app works well, it sends us short, anonymous events about how it is used. This is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time. The events are:

• The app was installed or opened, and whether it started fresh or was resumed.
• The first-run steps, the choices made there (such as the language or Mushaf script), and whether they were finished or skipped.
• The free-version terms were accepted, and which version of them.
• A demo was opened, or a project was created and how: an imported file, an imported link, shared into the app, or from the library; or opening one failed (how it was being opened, and a short error code).
• Ayah recognition finished (how long it took, as a range) or failed (a short error code).
• A video export started, finished, failed or was canceled, with: the surah number, how many ayahs, the reciter, template and font picked from the app’s own lists, the resolution and frame rate, the video length, export time and file size as ranges, and a short error code if it failed.
• A video was published through Botsaz, and whether it worked, or shared through the phone’s share menu.
• A problem report was sent (only that it was sent and whether diagnostics were included, never its text).
• An update message was shown, whether the update was required or optional, and whether you tapped Update or Later.
• Usage statistics were turned off.
• A new app language was requested (only its language code, never a name you typed).

Each event also carries: a random ID the app makes when it is installed (it is not linked to your name, phone number, account or advertising ID), the app version, Android or iOS, where the app was installed from, the app language, your phone’s performance tier (low, mid or high), and your country, which Cloudflare works out from your connection (only the country: not your IP address, city or region).

What usage statistics never include

Usage statistics never include your name, phone number, email, contacts, precise location (GPS, city or region) or advertising ID, and never your recitations, voice, videos, captions, file names, links or anything you type. They go only to our own server at tarteel.video: we don’t use any analytics or advertising company. Some personal details can reach us in other ways, but only when you choose: see “Reports” and “Botsaz” below.

No IP addresses in usage statistics

For usage statistics, our server does not store your IP address, not even shortened or scrambled, and it keeps no access log or error log for them. The country in them comes from Cloudflare, which works it out from the connection; your IP address itself is never stored. Like most websites, tarteel.video reaches you through Cloudflare, which carries the connection for us.

Why we collect it

To learn how many people use the app, which exports fail and on what kind of phone, and which surahs, reciters, templates and fonts people use, so we fix the right problems and improve the right features. We don’t sell this data, share it, or use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

Events are deleted automatically after 13 months. The daily totals our team looks at contain no install ID.

How to turn it off

In the app, open Settings, then About, and switch off “Share anonymous usage stats”. The app then sends one last event saying statistics were turned off, deletes the events it has not sent yet, and sends nothing more. If you turn it back on later, the app starts with a new random ID, so old and new events can’t be linked.

Reports and language requests

“Report a problem” is sent only when you write something and tap Send report, even when statistics are off. They carry the text you wrote and, if you add them, the details you give us to reply to you (such as an email address or a phone number). With “Include diagnostics”, which is on unless you untick it, they also carry: the app version, Android or iOS and its version, your phone’s language and region setting, the app language, the Mushaf script, the last error as a short code, and your phone’s performance tier, memory and number of processor cores. They never include your projects, media, file paths or Botsaz account.

Reports reach our team as messages in a private Telegram group, carried by Telegram. If you choose WhatsApp in the report sheet instead, only your message and the app version go, through WhatsApp. To stop floods of reports, our server keeps a keyed hash (HMAC) of your IP address (for IPv6, of its /64 and /48 network prefixes) in rate-limit counters, never with the report; the counters are for one day (UTC). If a report request fails (for example, because it is too large), our web server’s error log can record the IP address; those logs are deleted after about two months. We keep reports for as long as we need them to help you and to fix problems, and we delete yours when you ask.

A language request (asking us to add a language to the app) is sent the same way, with the same rate limit, and carries only the language you chose (or the name you typed for it), the app’s language, your country and the app version. It is kept as a message in the same private Telegram group; in our statistics we keep a daily count per language and country, and, if usage statistics are on, the request is also an event like the others (its language code only).

Botsaz sign-in and publishing (optional)

You don’t need an account to use the app. If you choose to publish through Botsaz (a Codesaz service), you sign in on the Botsaz website in your phone’s browser. The app then receives your Botsaz account’s ID, name, email, profile picture, company and plan, and the pages connected to it (their names, usernames, links and pictures), and keeps the sign-in token and these account details in the phone’s secure storage. You can sign out in Settings.

When you publish, the app uploads the finished video (and its file name) to Botsaz with its caption, schedule, the pages you picked, the YouTube title and the TikTok privacy setting, and Botsaz posts it to your accounts, as a post or a story. Your Botsaz account and posts are held by Botsaz under its own terms. You can delete your Botsaz account and its data on the Botsaz website:

The free version and your videos

The free version lets Tarteel Video (Codesaz) use, show and share videos made with it, including to promote the app, as the Terms of Use explain. No video is uploaded to us because of this agreement: we only receive a video when you publish it through Botsaz, or when you post it or send it somewhere yourself.

When you agree, the app records on your phone the date and time, the app version, the version of the terms and which wording you ticked; only the fact that the terms were accepted, and their version, is sent with usage statistics. The agreement is also stamped into each project, and the app keeps a history of agreements and withdrawals on the phone. In the free version, a video can only be saved, shared or published after you agree. You can withdraw in Settings, under About, then Free version terms; the app then asks again before your next video is saved, shared or published.

Children and parents

Children use Tarteel Video too, for example to make a video of their own recitation, recorded with another app and added from the phone. The app is built to keep what they make on the phone:

• there are no ads, no advertising ID and no tracking;
• the app doesn’t use the microphone or the camera, and recitations, videos and projects stay on the phone;
• usage statistics are anonymous and never include a name, voice, video or anything typed; a parent can turn them off in Settings, under About;
• signing in to Botsaz and publishing to social media need an account; a child should only use them with a parent;
• a child should not put their name or contact details in a report: a parent can send it instead.

If your child is under 13 (or under the age of digital consent where you live), please set up the app with them, and decide yourself whether to agree to the free-version terms: without them, videos can’t be saved, shared or published, and with them we may use videos made with the free version, including to promote the app.

A parent can ask us at any time to remove a video made by their child, or showing their child, from our app, websites and social media accounts and not to use it again, or to delete a report their child sent, and we will. We can’t remove copies that other people have posted. Message us on WhatsApp or use Report a problem in the app.

Notifications

If notifications are turned on in your version of the app, it uses Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: Firebase gives your phone a notification token, and Google handles it under its own privacy terms. The app sends that token, with the app version, platform, language and the notification topics you follow, to Codesaz’s notification server (Botsaz), so we can send you notifications. It is not linked to the usage statistics.

Update check

When the app checks for an update, or checks that it can reach our server, our server may also tell it your country, worked out from your connection, so the app can order its list of languages. This check doesn’t store or log it.

Downloads and other services

To work, the app downloads some content straight from other services, which can see your device’s IP address and the usual request details under their own privacy terms: reciter audio, Quran data, Mushaf fonts and translations from quran.com’s services (quran.com, qurancdn.com, quran.foundation), download.quranicaudio.com and static-cdn.tarteel.ai; extra fonts from Google Fonts, jsDelivr or GitHub; and recognition models and fonts from our own sites (tarteel.video, cdn.tarteel.video). A link you add is downloaded from its own site, such as YouTube. Our own sites keep no access log of these downloads; only a failed download can leave the device’s IP address in our web server’s error log, which is kept only for a limited time.

Deleting your data

• Usage statistics: turn them off in Settings, under About. The app deletes its random ID and the events not sent yet. Events already sent can’t be linked to you and are deleted after 13 months.
• Reports and language requests: ask us on WhatsApp or through Report a problem, and we’ll delete them.
• Botsaz: delete your account on the Botsaz website (link above), or sign out in Settings to remove it from the app.
• Everything on your phone: delete projects in the app, or uninstall it. Videos you saved to your gallery stay there, and on iOS a Botsaz sign-in can stay in the phone’s keychain after uninstalling, so sign out first.

Who is responsible

Tarteel Video is made by Codesaz. Codesaz decides how this data is used (the data controller).

Changes to this page

We update this page when the app changes what it sends. The date at the top shows the last change.

For questions about your data, or to ask us to delete it, message us on WhatsApp or use Report a problem in the app. Because usage statistics are anonymous, we usually can’t tell which events are yours.
